What a picture

The Community gallery and archive, on the Barmouth Communities First website, has continued to grow and diversify. It provided the inspiration and the research resource that brought the National Theatre of Wales to carry out a fantastic project that is developing in Barmouth. What impressed Marc Rees , who has been commissioned to run the project for the National Theatre, was the fact that the whole community have been involved in creating this collection that has been tirelessly coordinated and organised by Hugh Roberts. With over 2000 images and 184000 hits this is the biggest and best online community archive in Wales. Not only have community members provided the material but they have also taken part in the Hugh's views events and provided the stories that go with these pictures.

The story shop, in the foyer of the Dragon Theatre has been documenting many of the stories this week so that they can be added to the resource. On the site are many articles written by local historians, which will provide a permanent record for future generations. Thursday morning's session in the Arts Room of the Dragon Theatre was the best yet when, in addition to the historic photos a compilation of movie footage from 1970's carnivals, created by Peter Telfer, was shown. Two songs by Glyn were very well received and the morning ended with Hugh's latest innovation, a gallery showing current residents of the town. The value of the work was brought home when Hugh said that 5% of the contributors had already passed away. Without this facility their stories and pictures would have been lost with their passing,
