St Johns Church

Sunday the 13th of June marked a special day in the life of St John's Church in Barmouth. It was the re-opening of St John's for Sunday worship following the second phase of restoration work. Work has been ongoing at St John's over the last few months on the mountainside of the building with several high-level nave windows having their stonework and glass repaired by specialists. Some of the stained glass windows have also been removed for repair in specialist workshops -no mean feat given the size of the windows! St John's has also had new cast iron drainpipes fitted from the top of the tower and had a lot of lead-work replaced. The end result is now a building that is almost fully weatherproof. All of this work would not have been able to go ahead without the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Cadw, the Piggott Trust and all of the kind people of the parish who donated not only funds, but their valuable time towards the project -and getting the Church ready for its first service. A warm and friendly invitation is therefore made to everyone to go to the 11 am service and see what has been done to St John's. you will be able to read the information displays and learn about future plans of facilities developments at St John's.
