Barmouth News - 25th July, 2010

Where future events and specific information are mentioned, these are highlighted for easy reference.

Carnifal Cambria

Carnifal Cambria on the promenade

Despite the damp day over sixty people took part in the Carnifal Cambria on Saturday. The procession along the promenade was a riot of colour and energy . The Harlech Silver Band accompanied the group and played at several points on the route. The station was the rallying point with the majority of people taking the free train supplied courtesy of Arriva Trains to Harlech where the plans had been rearranged to take account of the weather so that the picnic and performance were held at theatre Harlech instead of in the castle. Mask making workshops co-funded by Harlech Theatre and Communities First, held in the Dragon Theatre had been a great success earlier in the week. Children from the Pavilion’s Summer Play took part one morning. These masks formed part of the costumes for the parade. Congratulations are due to Jacqui and the organisers for their hard work to make this another successful event for the community.

Fire Station open Day

Open day at the fire station

The appearance of the extending turntable ladder at the open day on Saturday was the star attraction for the children and quite a few of the adults. This joint services day was an opportunity for the local people to go into the Fire Station and discover what happens there. Also present were the First Responders, Coast Guard and Lifeboat crews and various stalls were there to raise funds for local causes. A very impressive Subaru Imprezza in Fire service livery was in attendance with high tech equipment to help drivers understand just how serious and traumatic road incidents can be for all involved. During the course of the day a real emergency occurred that meant one appliance had to attend an incident at Llanelltyd. Station Manger Steve Morris and PCSO Kath Lake Bullen worked hard to put the event together, they would like to thank everyone who participated and attended for the generous way they gave of their time and energy.
