Victim Support fundraiser

Have you seen programmes on T.V. where people are taught how to walk over hot coals without incurring injury. Have you ever fancied trying it yourself? This could be you chance and an excellent way of raising cash for the Vicitm Support work that is being done in this area. This volunteer work is increasingly needed locally though, because of its sensitive nature, it is not something you hear about in general conversation. You need to be at least 18 years old to take part and you will need to get promises of £120 in sponsorship for your effort. Please register your interest at the Communities First office in Station Road Barmouth or call on 01341 280979 before the deadline of August 1st. New volunteers are also needed for this interesting and valuable service, if interested lease call into the office as above to collect contact details,. You will be well equipped as the charity offer a four day training course for new workers. You can also talk to current members of the team at the Meirionnydd Show on August 25th.

Bottle tops please

You may have heard that local charity collector Craig Dobbins no longer collects plastic bottle tops following the completion of the appeal for which he was working, however he has now found that the tops can be donated for the benefit of "Gwynedd Hospice at Home" so he is appealing once more for your plastic bottle tops. They can be left at the same collection points as before. Communities First office in Station road is a central location where you can drop them off, all will be gladly received for this vital service. In addition Craig is also collecting "Ring pulls" from drinks and food cans, these help raise funds for the Leukaemia Charity, he also collects used stamps for a wheelchair charity.

Exceptional

The work of two local groups and of several local businesses has come together to give the town its best appearance in years. Barmouth Resort Improvement Group and Barmouth in Bloom have pulled out the stops and really gone to town with superb results. All their work is done by volunteers who plan developments in particular areas of Barmouth, search for funding, put the plans into action and then provide ongoing maintenance for the improved areas. The projects belong to the community and community members are encouraged to help with the upkeep of the new planters and areas of planting. Please, if you see rubbish in any of these areas, show your support for the groups by picking it up and putting it in a bin. Increasingly local people are taking control of their local area, this shows that Barmouth people are proud of their town and want to keep its standards high. All concerned at BRIG and Barmouth in Bloom along with the individuals and business owners who are making the effort should be thanked warmly for the tremendous improvement they are making to the street scene.

Dads n Lads
