Credit Union Change

The Y Llechen Credit Union that operates on Thursday morning in the Communities First office has made some changes to its loan process to make it easier for people to access loans. There are many reasons why people choose not to use conventional banks for loans, Y Llechen loans are based on ability to repay rather than on other criteria. Information packs and loan repayment information is available from the office in Station Road any time. The volunteers who run the branch are available on Thursdays from 11am till 1pm to guide people through the process. Until recently there was an eight-week qualifying period before members could access loans, that has now been removed and a credit scoring system helps borrowers assess how much they can afford to repay. This is an alternative to doorstep lenders that could save large amounts of money on repayments.

Craig Dobbins has added another recycling scheme to his charity collecting. He now accepts used computer ink cartridges, these go to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Research Charity, he is still collecting plastic bottle tops for Hospice at home and stamps for the purchase of wheelchairs and also ring pulls that benefit a leukaemia research charity.
