Barmouth News - 8th August, 2010

Where future events and specific information are mentioned, these are highlighted for easy reference.

Blood Brothers

Paradisi theatre company from Criccieth have triumphed yet again with their latest production. The larger than usual cat is drawn from Paradisis home area and from Barmouth. All work well together and deliver a gripping and authentic drama that makes you forget that this is not a professional company. Singling performances out for praise is unfair as all contribute to the telling of a wholly believable tale that rings with social comment and observation. Dating from 1983 the issues and characters are recognisable on the streets today, so it is well worth seeing for all sorts of reasons. Performances are every Monday in August at the Dragon Theatre. Booking in advance is advisable, the box office can be contacted by calling 01341 281697 and is also open in the foyer each morning from 11am till 1pm.

Fawlty Towers

The summer run of the Bermo Arts comedy got off to an exceptional start on Wednesday with the "House full" signs going up well before the start of the show. The tradition of transferring T.V. shows to the Barmouth stage has proved to be a consistent draw for visitors and residents alike. The episode chosen will be remembered by fans of the series as it featured the late Joan Sanderson as the deaf woman with the ear trumpet and has the usual mayhem that results from misunderstandings and misinterpretations of messages. As always it is a show not to be missed with a cast dedicated to make you laugh. Tickets can be ordered from the box office as above.

The Netta Irvine Cup

The turnout for the event wasn't as good as in former years due to the poor weather and to illness. The rain stayed away and it was cool, despite this there was plenty of laughter & fun. Many games had been played in the morning ,there was then a break for lunch. After lunch there was one more game to play for the decider of the semi finals. Pam Payton played Joyce Jones and Lorraine Viney played Pauline Roberts. Pam & Pauline won their games and so went on to play in the finals. There was a short break so they could get their breath back before resuming the game. It was a well contested game with Pam being the winner. Nettas Daughter Lynn presented the trophy and medals doing so after a tearful speech. Lots of photos were taken before all went into the clubhouse where a beautiful spread was awaiting, prepared by the WI ladies. Thank you to everyone who donated lovely raffle prizes they were much appreciated. Next Saturday 14th there will be fun day and anyone is very welcome to join in.
