| Fairbourne
and Barmouth Steam Railway |
|
A narrow guage steam train, running from Penrhyn Point, a short ferry ride
from Barmouth harbour, to Fairbourne, two miles away. The Fairbourne & Barmouth
Railway track was originally laid in 1895, by Mr. Arthur McDougall of flour fame, to
transport building materials for the construction of Fairbourne village. |

| Portmeirion |
| Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1883-1978) had since his boyhood nurtured a
dream of one day building his own ideal village on some romantic coast. Portmeirion is a
small private village set on its own wooded peninsula overlooking Cardigan Bay in North
Wales. The most famous use of Portmeirion as a location was without doubt
Patrick McGoohan's The Prisoner, shot in the 1960s. |

| Great Little
Trains of Wales |
| A terrific site for train enthusiasts. The Great Little Trains of Wales
are narrow gauge railways built through the beautiful scenery of north and west Wales.
Built in a time less hasty than our own, most originally served to carry Welsh slate from
hill to harbour. Now tourists have replaced slate as the main traffic, and dedicated
volunteers have joined the paid staff in the work of restoring and running these pretty
little railways. |
